Packaging Case Studies

Dynamic speed, zero-defect policy and 100% accuracy are major issues in the packaging industry. Omron offers complete solutions for packaging processes by integrating sensors, inspection systems, logic controllers, drives, servo systems and motion control systems with programmable logic controllers and MMI interfaces. Omron's philosophy is not just to connect components and systems, but to work with you as a partner in providing solutions that improve the efficiency and productivity of your packaging machinery.

Inspection
  • Aluminum Container Inspection (BWAY)
Inspect top dome stampings for dents, scratches, cracks and contaminants. Inspect concave bottoms for presence and proper amount of sealing compound.
  • Carton Fill Inspection
Detect carton fill accuracy and carton seal integrity for case packers and cartoners.
  • Double Feed Detect
Detect mis-feeds and double feeds due to misalignment or no blank present of cardboard blanks in case packers and cartoners.
  • Feeder Control
Inspect for mis-fed, overloaded or misaligned material to reduce jams, wasted time and damaged materials.
  • Promotional Label Detection
Non-invasive solutions to detect the presence or absence of promotional labels on already productive packaging lines.
Production Improvement
  • Package Counting
Package counting control for cartoning, palletizing, accumulating and container filling applications.
  • Product Changeover
Reduce downtime and wasted profits, make adjustments efficiently and change lines over quickly for capping, labeling, filling and case packing applications.
  • RFID Track and Trace
RFID "smart" labels supplement bar codes to help trace shipments from plant to distribution center to point of sale.

Coveright Surfaces, Inc. , an impregnated paper manufacturer in the southeast region, was motivated to find solutions for reducing waste and increasing profit. One "wasted" roll of material is worth thousands of dollars and cannot be salvaged. The corporate engineer in charge selected Omron after searching the Internet for possible solution providers. The proposed solution used two ZX smart measurement sensors in conjunction with a digital panel meter for web width & two analog output ultrasonic sensors for paper thickness measurements.
